Have Fun at Uzumasa Kyoto Village

Maybe you’re wondering what Uzumasa Kyoto Village actually is: well, it’s a movie set brought to life. Imagine walking down streets that look exactly like an old Japanese film! This is the only film studio theme park in Japan where you can step onto real sets from samurai dramas and feel like you’ve traveled straight back to the Edo period. Your kids will be amazed by the Evangelion robot bust that you can pose with, and you can even snap a photo right from the palm of its hand. For older kids and anime fans, there’s also a special experience where they can climb into the Entry Plug and test their sync rate.

And if simply walking through the set is not enough, there is plenty to keep little adventurers busy. Families can rent costumes and stroll around the park dressed as samurai, ninja, princesses, maiko, or townspeople, turning a normal visit into a full-on role-playing adventure. There are even ninja costume rentals just for kids, so little ones can run around the old streets feeling like the star of their own action movie. But the fun doesn’t stop there. Uzumasa Kyoto Village is also packed with ninja-themed attractions where children can climb, crawl, and test their courage. They can try to escape from a ninja mansion full of hidden passages and tricks, tackle a giant three-story ninja maze with physical and puzzle courses, or join a ninja battle adventure to defeat demons and save the village. There is even a shuriken dojo where they can practice throwing ninja stars, plus a thrilling climbing attraction for brave kids who want to train like real ninjas.

And of course, no visit would be complete without the famous ninja show, full of acrobatics, action, and enough excitement to keep the whole family glued to their seats. It’s one of those places where kids do not just watch the story; they get to jump right into it.

Walk Through Bamboo, Meet Monkeys

Kyoto is full of temples and quiet streets, but for families, Arashiyama is one of the easiest and most exciting areas to enjoy. Start your day at the famous bamboo grove, where the tall green bamboo makes everything feel magical. Go early if you can, because it gets busy fast, and kids will enjoy it more when there is space to walk and look around. After that, stroll near the river, grab a snack, and enjoy the fresh autumn air. The mix of mountains, water, and colorful leaves makes Arashiyama one of the prettiest family spots in Kyoto.

And now, the fun part: Monkey Park Iwatayama! The walk up the hill takes some energy, so it’s better for kids who can handle a climb, but the reward is totally worth it. At the top, there’s also a small feeding house where you can step inside, buy snacks, and feed the monkeys safely through the grille, which makes the experience even more exciting for kids.

It feels like a mini adventure, not just another sightseeing stop. During autumn, the mountain colors make the whole area even more special, with bright leaves all around. Kyoto can sometimes feel too serious for kids, but Arashiyama brings the perfect mix of nature, animals, snacks, and family adventure.

Address: 616-0004 Kyoto, Nishikyo Ward, Arashiyama Nakaoshitacho, 61−61

Take Cute Photos and Hunt for Hidden Stamps at Katsuo-ji Temple

This temple in Minoh (near Osaka) is a paradise for families during autumn. The mountainsides burst into brilliant red and yellow colors, and here’s the fun part: your kids can go on a stamp-collecting adventure! Your ¥500 entry fee includes a blank postcard, and there are eight stamp points scattered around the temple grounds. Each stamp is part of a bigger illustration, and when you collect them all, you end up creating a postcard that’s completely unique to your visit. It feels like a mini treasure hunt that makes exploring the temple even more fun! The best part? The stamp designs change with the seasons, so what you get is truly one of a kind.

The temple is also known as the “Temple of Winning Luck” and is famous for its countless Daruma dolls. Almost every corner is covered in these cute round dolls; you’ll find them sitting on railings, tucked between rocks, and balancing on tree branches. At night during the autumn season, there’s a special illumination event where the temple lights up, and the Daruma dolls look even more magical under the glow. Families often spend more than two hours here just exploring and taking photos, so make sure to bring a power bank because your camera battery might not survive! As you’re in Minoh, before leaving the town, make sure to try its famous local specialty: maple leaf tempura. This unique snack is made by preserving maple leaves in salt for around a year before coating them in a light, sweet batter and deep-frying them until crisp. It’s one of Minoh’s most iconic treats, especially popular during the autumn foliage season.

Spend the Whole Day Surrounded by Nature and Fun Games

For an absolutely perfect full-day family adventure in Osaka, start your morning at the huge Expo ’70 Commemorative Park in Suita, a 260-hectare green space built on the site of the 1970 World Exposition. As the seasons change, the park transforms into a breathtaking canvas of autumn colors, with around 10,000 trees, including maples, ginkgos, and zelkovas, painting the landscape in brilliant shades of crimson, gold, and orange. So it’s the perfect place to enjoy a picnic, play with your children, and admire the autumn leaves.

The Japanese Garden and the Natural and Cultural Gardens are must-visit spots, where you can stroll along peaceful paths, crunch through fallen leaves, and enjoy the serene beauty of traditional teahouses and ponds reflecting the foliage. Depending on when you visit, you might also catch seasonal events like the Cosmos Festival in mid-October, where 150,000 cosmos flowers bloom in vibrant pinks and whites, or the Fall Foliage Festival in November, which features concerts and special teahouse openings. The highlight for kids is undoubtedly the adorable Forest Train (¥350), a little train that goes through the park and offers a relaxing, scenic ride through tunnels of colorful leaves, perfect for little legs that need a break from walking. Just note that it only runs until 4:30 pm.

After you’ve immersed yourselves in nature, simply walk to the exit and go to the massive LaLaport EXPOCITY shopping and entertainment complex, which is directly connected to the park. This is where the fun continues indoors! First, take a ride on the Redhorse OSAKA WHEEL, which holds the title of Japan’s tallest Ferris wheel at 123 meters high. From the top, you and your kids will be treated to a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of Osaka’s cityscape, the surrounding mountains, and, most spectacularly, the autumn-colored park below, looking like a beautiful patchwork quilt of red and gold. The gondolas are spacious, air-conditioned, and some even feature glass floors for an extra thrill that older kids will love.

Once you’re back on solid ground, it’s time to have more fun at VS PARK, an incredible “active entertainment” facility located inside LaLaport EXPOCITY. This is not your ordinary arcade; it’s a high-tech playground filled with interactive sports and digital challenges where the whole family can compete against each other. Imagine playing digital dodgeball, racing on virtual ski machines, testing your reflexes in a giant light-up maze, or trying to beat your family members at motion-sensing games that get your heart pumping. It’s the perfect indoor activity for kids of all ages, and even parents will find themselves laughing and breaking a sweat. With over 300 shops and restaurants in the mall, you can easily grab lunch, enjoy dinner, and even do some shopping without ever leaving the complex. This combination of natural beauty, thrilling rides, and active indoor play makes for a stress-free, action-packed day that will keep everyone entertained from morning until night, rain or shine.

A magical autumn day feeding friendly deer in Nara Park – Photo Credit: Agoda

Nara

Feed the Friendly Deer and Explore Nara Park

Next stop, Nara! If your kids love animals, this place will feel like a dream. Nara Park is famous for its sweet and curious deer that walk freely around the area, and yes, they are ready to become your kids’ new best friends. You can buy special deer crackers and feed them, but be ready, because some of the deer can get very excited when they see snacks! It’s funny, cute, and a little chaotic in the best way. During autumn, the park becomes even more beautiful, with red, orange, and golden leaves all around, making every family photo look like a postcard.

After meeting the deer, walk to Todai-ji Temple, one of the most impressive temples in Japan. Inside, you will find a giant Buddha statue that will make everyone say “wow,” even the kids who usually get bored at temples. But that is not the only fun part! Near the Buddha, there’s a famous wooden pillar with a hole at the bottom, and visitors try to squeeze through it for good luck. The hole is said to be the same size as the Great Buddha’s nostril, which makes the challenge even funnier for kids. Just imagine your children bursting into laughter as they slip through with no problem at all, while mum or dad gets stuck halfway and becomes the funniest part of the visit. It’s one of those little details that turns Todai-ji into more than just a temple stop and makes the whole Nara day feel extra special for families.

Opening Hours: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm

Admission: Adults ¥800 / Kids (6-12) ¥400

Enjoy Colorful Parks and Family Fun in Tokyo

Tokyo may look like a busy city at first, but surprise! It also has many beautiful places where families can slow down and enjoy autumn together. One of the best spots is Shinjuku Gyoen, a huge garden where kids can run, parents can relax, and everyone can enjoy the colorful trees. Bring some snacks, sit on the grass, and enjoy a simple picnic while the red and gold leaves are around you. It’s a peaceful break from trains, shops, and city noise, and honestly, every family needs one of those moments during a trip to Japan.

For a more magical autumn walk, Rikugien Garden is another lovely choice. The paths, ponds, bridges, and trees make it feel like stepping into a quiet storybook. It’s not a playground, but it’s a great place for kids who like exploring little paths and spotting fish or ducks in the water. If your family wants something more lively after nature time, you can continue the day in places like Ueno, Asakusa, or Odaiba, where you will find museums, food, shops, and fun city views. Tokyo is perfect because you can mix calm autumn beauty with exciting kid-friendly stops all in one day.
